HARVEST & VINTAGE NOTES
The Beaumont Chenin Blanc from South Africa is made from 95% Bot River fruit and 5% from the Overberg. This is only the 2nd time that Beaumont had to source from outside the Bot River ward. Yields were very low due to the drought. The 2020 vintage produced another year of great health fruit.
A cool, wet winter helped vines rest but the summer was dry resulting in tiny berries, high natural acid levels and great fruit purity.
Very expressive wine with a lovely balanced palate. Grapes were picked early to preserve freshness and balance in the wine. Fermentation was very slow and cool. A new press used for the first time this year produced very clean juice, having a very positive effect on this vintage. Batches were fermented separately with different yeast strains to add complexity to the wine. It was then blended after fermentation.
This vintage is a beautiful expression of the grape capturing the full flavor and potential that the Bot River terroir has to offer. It is a delicious example of cooler climate Chenin Blanc, fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Dry, fresh and delicious!
